Extra Curricular Clubs


Our schools offers an excellent education in a caring enriching environment which  empowers and motivates students to use their individual gifts with confidence, creativity and generosity.

Each year Chatswood Public School publishes a booklet which outlines the extra curricular activities of the school. The booklet is given to families when they are new to the school.

All extra curricular activities operate outside the timetable of the school day.
 
Art Clubs

The Art Clubs are open to students with an interest in, talent for and commitment to Visual Arts. Club time will be exciting and focussed on the advancement of students’ own artwork. Art Club allows time for the students to create works that will be displayed within the school and the community. The Clubs meet once a week at lunchtimes: Junior Art Club (Y3/4 and selected Y2) students on Mondays; Senior Club on Tuesdays.

Chess

The Chess Club is open to all students with an interest or skill in chess. Students meet up to three times a week (see timetable) and can attend all of any of these sessions. Interschool and intraschool competitions are organised. Membership is $2 per term, coaching is $35 per term. Parents will need to assist with transport for tournaments.

Debating

Debating Teams are formed in term 2 for interschool competition, which concludes in term 3. Interested students from Years 5 and 6, who are confident speakers, will be auditioned for places on the Teams. The Teams will meet as required. There  is no permission slip for Debating - more information will be issued at a later date.

Drama Club

The Drama club is renown for their end of year peformances. In 2006 it was Rohald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes and this year it will be equally amazing. Students will meet as required and must do a large amount of preparation at home. Parents will be needed for costuming and props.

Library Monitors

Y5 & 6 students who enjoy using computers, assisting younger students and helping to organise resources are invited to apply for the position of Library Monitor. After training, the twelve chosen students will be rostered on duty at lunchtimes from 1:15p.m. Monday to Thursday (inc).

Nature Club

Learn about plants and bugs and do a bit of gardening! Nature Club (Y5/6) meets on Tuesdays at lunchtimes.

Public Speaking

The Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition is a ‘one off’ competition to which we send a junior (Y4) and a senior (Y5 or 6) competitor. Interested students, who are confident speakers, will be auditioned in term 2. The competition will be held approximately six weeks later. Students will meet as required and must do a large amount of preparation at home. Parents will be needed for for transport.

Robotics Club

The Robotics Club is open to students with an interest in technology, teamwork and dancing. This club is open to only Year 5 and 6 students and will meet on Wednesday at lunchtime during Terms 2 and 3. The gola it to enter teams into the Robocup dance category in August held at the UNSW squarehouse.

Science Clubs

Science Clubs are open to students with an interest in investigating, exploring and experimenting. Junior (Years 3/4 ) and Senior (Years 5/6) Clubs will meet on Wednesday at lunchtime during Terms 2 and 3.
Year 5 and 6 are expected to submit an entry into the STANSWA Young Scientist Competition in August.

PSSA Sport Teams

PSSA Sports Teams represent their school weekly, in interschool competitions. Students interested in the following teams will need to attend trials on dates to be advised at lines. Details of alternate sports, for those who aren’t selected, or don’t try out, will be sent out next week for term one, and again just prior to the commencement of each new term. Please note, membership of a PSSA team is for two terms of competition (1 & 4 or 2 & 3). Bus fares of approx. $50 per term, per member, will be invoiced.

 Modball
 Modball is played in terms 1 and 4 and is open to girls, and up to two boys. Junior (up to 10yo) and Senior (11 years and over) teams will be formed. The teams train twice a week (see timetable). Sports uniform is worn. Trials will be held this Friday.

 Cricket
 Cricket is played by boys in terms 1 and 4. Junior (up to 10yo) and senior (11yrs and over) teams will be formed. Cricketers wear long white trousers and, a white shirt, or sports uniform, and a hat. Trials will be held this Friday.

 Netball
 Netball is played by girls in terms 2 and 3. Junior (up to 10yo) and senior (11 yrs and over) teams will be formed. The teams train up to twice a week (see timetable). Sports uniform is worn. Trials will be held before the end of term 1.

 Soccer
 Soccer is played in terms 2 and 3. A junior (up to 10yo), a senior (11yrs and over) and two mixed age teams will be formed. The teams train once a week (see timetable). Team members must supply white shorts, shin pads, soccer boots and Chatswood Rangers socks (available locally). Shirts are loaned to players by the school. Trials will be held before the end of term 1.
